Hartwig was forced off against Wangaratta last Sunday with an ankle complaint.
"My foot got trapped in a wrestling-spoiling duel with 'Reidy' (Ben Reid) and instantly if felt pretty bad," he explained.
"It was basically immobile and there was a lot of pain with it, so I thought something was seriously wrong.
"On Monday night, I got the Voltaren gel out and really started to do some self-massage and really digging in behind the heel, it started to open up with some movement.
"During one of the movements my foot made a very loud audible crack, like two cracks, and suddenly it was fairly movable again with no pain, it was bizarre."

Hartwig debuted in 2005, but has spent six years away.
"If I didn't get to 150 I wasn't going to be happy because dad (Leigh) got to 252," he quipped.
