Ovens and Murray football and netball, country football from the Tallangatta and Hume leagues, Group 9 and SIRU rugby, AWFA and NPL2 soccer and SEABL basketball are all covered here.
In the Ovens and Murray, star Wodonga recruit Jarrod Hodgkin jagged six goals against Corowa-Rutherglen, while Wangaratta booted a whopping 27 goals as they demolished North Albury.
Yarrawonga responded to consecutive losses in weeks prior by belting the Wodonga Raiders, Myrtleford signing Harley Puruntatameri booted nine goals in his Saints debut, while Josh Mellington did one better and booted 10 against an understrength Lavington.
In the netball, Yarrawonga teenager Indiana Fraunfelder impressed in her A-Grade debut, while Lavington, North Albury, Corowa-Rutherglen and Wangaratta Rovers also recorded wins.
In the Tallangatta League, Kiewa-Sandy Creek kept the speedy Wahgunyah in check with a 15-point win, while Culcairn jumped up the Hume League ladder after thrashing the Murray Magpies.
It was a memorable night for the Albury-Wodonga Lady Bandits, as Olivia Barber sparked a second half comeback and one-point win over the Canberra Capitals Academy in the Allen McCowan Memorial Game.
There was a winning feeling in the Lauren Jackson Sports Centre as the Bandits then steamrolled the Canberra Gunners in the second half of their clash. The capacity crowd raised $1800 for Nick Dempsey's Journey on the night as well.
Despite holding a 2-1 lead at half time, Murray United were forced to settle for a draw when they faced the fast-finishing Melbourne City on Saturday.
It was a tough day at the office for the Border's rugby contingent, with the Steamers falling by a solitary point against CSU and the Albury Thunder on the wrong end of a hiding from Gundagai in their Group 9 league clash.
Finally in AWFA action, Albury United’s 4-2 win over Boomers was largely overshadowed by a sickening collision between United’s Ben Hughes and Kris Wheeler. The pair were taken to hospital via ambulance early in the second half.
